- Are you comfortable in the uncomfortable?
It's natural to feel uneasy when stepping out of our comfort zone and facing new challenges. However, it's crucial for personal and professional growth. By breaking our usual routines and habits, we can push ourselves beyond our limits and attain new heights. Putting ourselves in uncomfortable situations can boost our confidence and help us overcome resistance to change. Overcoming this resistance is essential to achieving our goals, growing, and getting better every day. As teachers, we need to embrace a co-learning stance and step out of our comfort zone. This means we become co-learners with our students, working together as collaborators in our quest for better instruction and improved student learning outcomes. By adopting a co-learning stance, we can create a positive attitude towards learning together, where we share a single approach and work towards a shared understanding. It's important to learn to face your mistakes and feel comfortable in discomfort. Sometimes we all mess up, but that's how we learn. Whether you're a student or a teacher, we need to understand that making mistakes is part of the process. And hey, we're all on the same team here, right? Developing a growth mindset plays an important aspect of life, including teaching. A key aspect of a growth mindset is being open to making mistakes. It may not be easy, but it is essential to grow as people, as team members, and as a guide for our students. Additionally, teaching students to accept mistakes is important as it allows them to learn from our experiences. This collaborative effort requires mutual support between teacher and student, and the success of each party depends on the other. If one fails, the others will also be affected. Therefore, it is essential to work together and foster an environment where making mistakes is accepted and used as an opportunity for growth. I encourage you to take risks, weigh the potential benefits and drawbacks, and step out of your comfort zone. By implementing new ideas and ventures, we can reap greater rewards than by remaining stagnant and watching the world progress without us. Let's seize the day and not wait until it's too late. Learning is a complex process that requires significant effort and attention from both the teacher and the student. One of the most critical factors in creating an effective learning environment is the professional development of the teacher. Teachers who are active participants in their work team and open to receiving help are more likely to achieve success in the classroom. It is essential for teachers not only to be part of their work group but also to actively learn new things and accept constructive criticism to improve their teaching skills. Constructive feedback can be an invaluable tool for teachers to identify areas of improvement, even when they believe they are doing everything correctly. The video "Innovation That Sticks Case Study - OCSB: Collaborative Professional Development" demonstrates how effective leadership can encourage team members to participate actively in their professional development, leading to better outcomes than just providing tools and leaving them to their own devices. Passion and dedication are crucial for success in this kind of project. Applying the concepts presented in the video can help develop an effective professional development approach. Teachers should be active learners themselves and apply a growth mindset, working as a team to create a hands-on learning environment that benefits both the students and the teachers. This approach can help teachers avoid boredom and monotony, ensuring they remain engaged and motivated in their profession. In conclusion, active learning is essential for both teachers and students. Teachers who are willing to learn actively, work as a team, and share knowledge can create an effective learning environment that benefits everyone involved. - Power of Growth Mindset in Learning Environments!
One of the best ways to inspire our students is to lead by example and show them the power of a growth mindset. We can be honest with them about our own challenges and work with them to find solutions. By involving them in this manner, we can teach them the importance of overcoming obstacles to achieve progress and instill in them a growth mindset. Remember, it's not about "I can't do it," but "I can't do it yet." As educators, it's crucial to instill a mindset of perseverance in our students. This will pave the way for their mental growth and equip them with the resilience to bounce back from mistakes. By empowering them with the right attitudes and skills, we can help them become independent and confident individuals. Though a growth mindset is a great foundation, it's only one piece of the puzzle. Success is a multifaceted journey that requires a combination of factors, including navigating relationships with people from different walks of life and pursuing our goals with determination and grit. - Embracing the change!!
In today's world, students need 21st-century skills like critical thinking, communication, creativity, problem-solving, perseverance, collaboration, information and digital literacy, global awareness, and innovation skills. Schools must integrate these skills into their curriculum to prepare students for success. Using technology in the classroom is very important these days. But it can be tough for some teachers, especially if they're not used to it. That's where these cool guidelines come in handy. If you want to use tech in class like a boss, check out these tips: First, give it a go yourself so you know what's up. Then, ask your students what they think about it. Keep their parents in the loop about the tech and how it helps. Make things more fun with online games and interactive lessons. Teach your fellow teachers how to use the tech like a pro. And don't forget to teach your students how to be smart and responsible with digital media. In the past, the education system placed a heavy emphasis on memorization and gave teachers complete control over their students, leaving little room for independence. As a result, trust between teachers and students eroded over time. However, today's education system prioritizes achieving objectives, encouraging active participation and collaboration among students, while teachers act as facilitators and mentors. This new approach aligns the curriculum with students' interests, experiences, and real-world scenarios, creating a more informative and practical learning environment. Overall, the current education system is more student-centric, empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey and providing them with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the real world.Learning nowadays has become quite a task. Although we have access to lots of resources, it's still hard to have a comfortable and happy learning experience. The education and classroom systems we have today were created more than a century ago, when technology wasn't even a thing. Recently, I watched a video where the presenter visited 60 schools and none of them met their expectations. Why? It's simple: change is tough, especially when it comes to changing a system that's been around for over a century. Teachers and parents find it challenging to bring about change without adequate resources. The system expects a lot but doesn't provide enough support. It's up to us to be the agents of change and start taking action in our environment and motivate others to follow us. Wix Picutre, 2023. - Connecting the Dots
Are you ready to transform your organization or classroom into an irresistible, dynamic space that energizes and engages everyone involved? BHAGs and PL plans are the answer! BHAGs are long-term objectives that connect your organization with its purpose, while a PL plan with your teacher can turn your classroom into an exciting space where you and your peers are fully invested in your learning. By connecting the dots of knowledge and collecting dots of experience, you'll be able to apply your learnings to your daily life and achieve great success and growth. It's hard work, but it's absolutely worth it. Start your journey today! Passion and knowledge are the ultimate catalysts for success, while grades and scores are merely superficial measures of achievement. In an inspiring video by Seth Godin, he highlights the importance of connecting the dots, rather than just collecting points. This approach is especially crucial for teachers, who play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our society by guiding students towards a more meaningful education that goes beyond the traditional learning methods. However, our current education system often falls short in fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment, instead placing excessive emphasis on individual achievements. Nonetheless, as educators, we have the power to ignite our students' passions and instill in them the drive to make a positive impact on their communities and the world at large. Let's break free from the mundane and embrace a more exciting approach to education! The Connecting Dots video is an amazing example of how expert students are able to use their knowledge to create meaningful connections that help them learn for life. I'm currently pursuing my master's degree and the insights I've gained have been invaluable. I've become more patient and persistent in my teaching approach, not just focusing on getting high scores but also helping my students reflect on what they've learned. Although it can be frustrating when students score low despite my best efforts, I've learned to keep trying until I see significant improvement. Being a teacher is challenging, but it's incredibly rewarding to see my students grow and develop through my guidance. To achieve meaningful learning, consistency and persistence are key. It starts by assessing the knowledge level of your students and determining how far they can go. From there, assign activities that will help them learn and develop their skills. If some students are struggling, work with them in small groups using RTI interventions. And if the majority of the class is struggling, review the material with them and reteach if necessary. By connecting the dots between different concepts, you can help your students achieve their goals and reach new heights! - Learning Revolution
Hey there! Sir Ken's speech really resonated with me. He emphasized the need for revolutionary changes in the field of education, rather than just small tweaks that don't make much of an impact. He believes that we need to transform the entire educational system to make it the best it can be for all students, not just a select few. After all, we all know that every student is unique and comes from a diverse background, so it's important to create an environment that caters to everyone's needs. Let's work towards creating an inclusive education system that empowers all students to reach their full potential! In Daniel Pink's video, he talks about how people react positively to rewards or incentives. Basically, if we're rewarded well, we're more likely to be motivated to do our work better. Makes sense, right? We've got lives, families, and bills to pay, so we need that extra push to stay focused and productive. Sir Ken's video and Daniel Pink's video are kind of like two peas in a pod. They both agree that motivation and focus are key to achieving real success. So, if you're looking to crush your to-do list and reach your goals, you gotta keep that reward in mind! Watch Daniel Pink's video to learn more. Motivation is crucial not only for educators but also for students and parents as it sets a chain of transmission of feelings and emotions in motion. When teachers are motivated, they perform better, which in turn benefits students and parents. As complex beings, human development is a mystery of life that we may never fully comprehend. However, it is important to try to understand and act accordingly in order to make progress. Related posts: Communicating a Vision for Change You have the power; I challenge you to make a change
- New Culture of Learning
I have always believed that people are happiest when they are comfortable and confident in their surroundings. As a teacher, it is important to create a secure learning environment for students. Having passion is also crucial, as it provides encouragement and desire for achievement. Without it, life would feel like a dark cloud with no motivation. with passion, nothing can stop you from overcoming obstacles. Imagination is also important, and the question "What if?" can change the world. By setting difficult challenges, the most brilliant ideas are born from passion, imagination, and overcoming obstacles. This results in real change and meaningful learning. At the beginning of his CSLE video, Dr. H mentioned a phrase that really resonated with me. He said that while we all want change, no one wants to change. It's true that sometimes we resist change even when we know it's necessary. As teachers, we are responsible for facilitating learning in our classrooms, but we must also recognize that we need to change ourselves. Our students come from different cultural backgrounds and have been raised with different ideas and values. I am a third-grade teacher, and many of my students' parents are between 20 and 25 years old. It feels like they were just born yesterday, and now they're raising their own children. This means that they are teaching their children based on the cultural and social norms of their own time. We can't expect our students to have the same cultural background as us. There's a significant age gap between us, and we need to keep that in mind. It's critical to ensure that learning is centered around the student, with the teacher serving as a facilitator. Additionally, we must create a learning design that prioritizes quality. Without the necessary support and infrastructure, academic success is unlikely. Finally, it's essential to evaluate the learning experience to identify areas for improvement. The most important thing is to create opportunities for this new learning culture to emerge. As facilitators, teachers must be actively involved in driving this change. Wix Picture, 2023.
- Differentiated Leadership
Leader: A person who heads and directs a social, political, religious group or movement, etc. There are various concepts of leadership, but what does it take to become an effective leader? According to Freedman, being a successful leader is not solely based on one's traits or abilities. Instead, it involves managing our emotions and anxiety through a process called self-differentiation. This perspective outlines what is expected of a good leader. As leaders in both the classroom and student community, it's important for us to learn how to regulate our emotions and anxiety. This ensures that we don't negatively impact our team and can continue working together towards our shared goals. However, if we're unable to control ourselves, it can lead to issues within our work environment. As Fredman notes, emotional drama can cause disruptions and stall progress. Therefore, it's essential that we prioritize emotional regulation and strive to create a positive and productive team dynamic. I would like to discuss crucial conversations that involve high stakes, emotions, and differing opinions. These conversations help improve self-control and create positive emotions. They enable us to present our ideas respectfully to our team. Crucial conversations can help us get unstuck, start with empathy, observe, create a safe space, understand our perspectives, communicate our position, explore other options, and take action. In my view, speaking respectfully is key to understanding one another. We are all human and have the ability to improve as a team. I find the topic of crucial conversations fascinating because they teach us how to lead and communicate effectively. I am excited to apply these tips with my team. I think that we should not take part in any of these two terms, which I find both very interesting, but rather take the most important part of each of these and put it into practice in our work team, since one relates to the other, For example, reducing our work anxiety can be achieved by having crucial conversations with our team since if everyone knows their role and is committed to the team, the work will flow better and there will be no more anxiety and stress. To sum up, I firmly hold the belief that our emotions are the root of everything. Our mindset defines our identity and potential. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain a sense of solidarity with our colleagues by regulating our emotions on a daily basis. Let us continue to work on our emotional well-being. Key Contributions and Supporting Contributions Working together as a team is an excellent way to do things efficiently and effectively, definitely, already in our 3rd and 4th subjects we have managed to do things easier and with less stress, we have learned to organize ourselves and adjust our times and needs for our entire team to be successful. I believe that when we all work together it is easier to be productive and competitive, and achieve the goals we have set for ourselves. I feel that we all cooperated and assumed our part of team leadership; Adriana was in charge of organizing the agenda and sharing links to have access to the meetings, Vitalia was in charge of photographic evidence, and Estefania and I shared resources as the bibliography, ePortfolios examples, and helpful web pages to our team, and so it was that each of us contributed to improve, but above all to reach our goal. It's important to keep improving and adapting as things change, but so far I could say that as a team we have improved and moved forward in a big way. I feel that Estefania, Adriana, Vitalia and I have created a friendly and cooperative atmosphere and have encouraged each other to work towards our personal and professional goals. We have definitely created a strong and successful team. I feel that every time we meet my stress and worries go away because we clarify many doubts regarding the assignments, definitely far from seeing it as an obligation I see it as a pleasure and a small break from my daily life to talk with my colleagues. Definitely, we've found that weekly feedback sessions are effective for sharing our viewpoints and reminding each other about assignments, We all learned a lot from each other. During these sessions, we measure the time we need to complete each task and search for resources to support our work. However, we could improve by meeting more frequently as a team. Our schedules are quite busy, as we all work 8-hour days and have families. Organizing our personal and professional lives has been a challenge for all of us, but we're working on it and believe we'll adapt over time. With BlackBoard's help, we were able to gain a deeper understanding of each team member's thoughts and feelings. I read through all of my colleagues' comments and shared with them how proud and happy I was to see their personal and professional growth. It is worth mentioning that these discussions were held in time so that my colleagues could have access to my ideas and comment on them. Our collaboration extended beyond the BlackBoard platform and included our WhatsApp group and external meetings where we provided feedback and suggestions for improvement. We recommended internet resources, books, and articles to enhance our work and ePortfolio structure. Our team is proud to report that we have successfully completed all of our assigned readings and videos, thanks in large part to our effective time management strategies. Each member of our team took the time to thoroughly examine every chapter and important point within the recommended bibliography, and we all contributed to compiling a comprehensive list of valuable sources. While the assignments themselves were challenging, we were able to utilize the information we had gathered from our bibliographic research to improve the quality of our work. Despite any obstacles we encountered along the way, we remained focused and dedicated to achieving great results. In fact, my colleagues have even gone so far as to showcase their individual accomplishments in their respective ePortfolios, and I would be more than happy to share the links with you so that you can see for yourself just how much we were able to achieve. Thanks to all the factors mentioned earlier, I successfully met my goal of submitting all assignments on time and ensuring they meet high quality standards. Delivering an assignment before or on time is pointless if it lacks quality. Efficiency lies in optimizing resources to produce work that fosters educational and personal growth. Have you ever struggled to achieve your goals? The Four Disciplines of Execution can provide guidance for success. By following these disciplines, you can learn how to effectively execute your work plan and stay focused on your objectives. With determination and discipline, you can turn your dreams into reality. According to the 4 Disciplines, it is important to prioritize the most crucial goals and focus solely on them. However, setting weekly or daily goals, even small ones, is also vital. These goals should be centered on the WIG, or "Wildly Important Goal," which is reasonable since it's easy to lose focus when we try to do too much. The third discipline, the scoreboard, is a critical stage in executing our plan. It involves the emotions and feelings of the team. Emotional commitment drives better performance, and the score is for the entire team. The four disciplines are crucial for students to achieve true learning, and teamwork is essential for reaching our goals. Collaboration within a team is like a party! It has several awesome advantages that make the work more fun and efficient. Here are a few of them: Through team collaboration, we can harness the unique strengths of each member, resulting in more efficient and effective work. It's akin to having a DJ, a chef, and a decorator all in one party! Additionally, working as a team can prevent burnout by sharing responsibilities and taking turns to rest and dance, just like at a party. Conflicts are inevitable, but working through them as a team can teach important problem-solving skills and improve communication, similar to playing a game with friends and learning to play fair. Moreover, teamwork can foster risk-taking by providing support and confidence to try new things, leading to innovation and growth, as if trying a new dance move at a party and getting cheered on by friends. Lastly, the collaborative and enjoyable nature of teamwork can reduce stress and improve overall well-being, creating a stress-free atmosphere similar to having a blast at a party. To achieve effective teamwork, good communication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to a common goal are necessary. Additionally, a positive attitude and willingness to learn from others are crucial. In summary, teamwork is like a party where we can have fun, learn new things, and achieve great things together. So, let's put on our party hats, my friends and colleagues, and continue to collaborate and make our dreams a reality! Wix Picture, 2023. Related Posts: 4 Disciplines of Execution Influencer Strategy
- The Magic in your hands: Learning Manifesto
When discussing Manifesto, I sense that the word carries significant weight and seriousness. It represents one's personal and professional beliefs. I have experienced trepidation in sharing my thoughts due to the fear of judgment. However, as I have encountered individuals throughout my journey, I have learned to stand up for my ideals and value my beliefs. It is essential to believe in oneself and the work and dedication put forth. I find joy and privilege in creating valuable experiences, compiling precious moments that allow for personal and professional growth. Life is a continuous teacher, and we are always learning and growing, not just in a single moment or season. We should embrace each day as an opportunity to learn and move forward on our path. I believe that the Learning Manifesto and Growth Mindset are interconnected. The Learning Manifesto entails our beliefs and values as individuals, while the Growth Mindset promotes positivity and progress. Once these two concepts are combined, achieving one's goals and ideals may be challenging due to personal and social struggles, but the power of 'yet' comes in handy. If one cannot achieve it now, with dedication and effort, it can be accomplished tomorrow. This is similar to a chain of events that leads to the same path: Learning.
