Trusting the process

I come from a generation that was under immense pressure to excel academically. My childhood in Mexico was marked by a challenging and rigorous educational system that placed great importance on achieving perfection. My mother, teachers, and society all had high academic expectations of me, which left a lasting impact. In hindsight, I realize that this emphasis on perfection has led to certain insecurities and a belief that I am not good at many things.

Carol Dweck believes that the word "YET" can inspire a growth mindset. It acknowledges that while we may not have learned something yet, we have the potential to achieve it in the future. While some people understand this concept well, others lack positivity and may not have faith in their abilities. As educators, it is important to consider what type of students we are instructing. Are they already high-achieving "A" students, or are they students who dream of a bright future and have potential for growth?

In the video "The Power of Belief - Mindset and Success" by Eduardo Briceno, he highlights important concepts such as persistence, goals, faith, focusing on the process, and embracing new challenges. Briceno provides clear examples of individuals who have surpassed themselves through perseverance and faith, ultimately reaching their goals. Currently, I am a teacher for third-grade students who are feeling anxious about the increased responsibilities associated with the STAR test. My goal is to encourage and support them, instilling confidence in their abilities and emphasizing that with hard work and effort, we can achieve our goals.
